How Amazon FBA fees work in 2026
Every Amazon sale carries a referral fee — a percentage of the total sale price that ranges from 5% to 45% by category, with most categories at 15%. On top of that, FBA sellers pay a per-unit pick & pack fee (roughly $3.32 for small standard items up to $7+ for larger ones, including the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge added in April 2026) plus monthly storage fees. The calculator lets you set both the referral % and the FBA fee so the result matches your specific product, not a generic average.
2026 fee changes worth knowing
Two updates matter this year: a 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge on standard-size FBA products took effect April 17, 2026, and Amazon ended its own FBA prep service on January 1, 2026, so prep is now your cost to handle or outsource. The 2026 fee schedule also added a small per-unit increase to most FBA fees. Build these into your pick & pack input rather than relying on last year's numbers.
A worked example — and the Revenue Trap
A $50 product with $14 COGS, a 15% referral ($7.50), a $5.50 FBA fee, $2 inbound, $0.75 storage, and $12 PPC nets about $8.25 per unit (16.5% margin). At 500 units a month you report $25,000 in revenue and bank around $4,125. That gap between the revenue you announce and the cash you keep is the Revenue Trap — and it is exactly what this calculator surfaces before you scale.
The input people get wrong most is the FBA fee — they type a round guess. Do not. Pull the Fee Preview report in Seller Central for your exact SKU and paste the real pick-&-pack number in, then add the 3.5% surcharge on top. When I started doing this I found two of my own products were sitting one size tier above their true measured size, and Amazon had been overcharging me for months. Re-measure your packaged unit before you trust any FBA number, including mine.
